Welcome to The Stirling Trust
How our therapy horses help
At The Stirling Trust, we are dedicated to helping veteran soldiers through our unique therapy programs that use veteran horses as therapy animals. Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment for veterans to heal and thrive.
My book on Stirling’s life was finished on a Monday in November 2019, and on the Friday, I had to make that horrible decision. The decision I never wanted to make, but my old friend had to go with dignity. I knew it was time. It was if he knew the book was finished, his story could be told, and now it was time for him to go. Stirling went peacefully on a sunny November morning, surrounded with the people that loved him.
Over the next couple of months my family and I, when talking about Stirling, realizing how much he meant to so many soldiers, decided we wanted to do something for the other old cavalry horses and veterans alike. We applied to The Charity Commission to register The Stirling Trust.
The Vision is to home and care for old cavalry horses, and to encourage veterans to help love and care for them, maybe a couple of hours a week. To give that contact between horse and soldier, that bond that often helps to quiet the mind, to give a little bit of peace, that unconditional love.
From where this will lead, I don’t know, but this is now our journey and we are more than happy for you to join us.
